In Summer the island of Majorca is a magnet for holidaymakers wanting to soak up the Mediterranean sun, but did you know that it is also the location where many A list celebrities spend their summer break?

Having decided to escape the dismal ‘Summer’ weather in Manchester we were able to pick up a great last minute deal with the UK’s longest established leisure airline – Monarch who are renowned for quality. We could not fault the excellent on board service by their attentive cabin crew and our holiday started the moment we stepped on board whilst the extra legroom seats at the front of the aircraft allowed us the truly stretch out and relax before we had even taken off. We had also splashed out on priority check in and boarding which took all the hassle out of the airport experience

Palma is a city of surprises for the first-time visitor from its stunning palm tree promenade (bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Promenade des Anglais in Nice) to the iconic Cathedral that looks down on the charming and unspoilt old town. Without doubt foodies will adore ‘La Ruta Martiana’ which offers tapa and a beer for a few euros and is a great way to sample the gastronomic delights of Palma’s old town, whilst wandering around the cobbled streets and hidden squares where you can find tranquillity even in peak summer.

Dining Room

Looking for that relaxing haven whilst still being close to Palma we chose to stay at the Portixol Hotel which is located adjacent to the harbour in Portixol, a 20 minute walk from the city centre.

A boutique property, the Portixol combines luxury and ambiance with style with a Swedish twist.  We received an extremely warm welcome and throughout our stay the staff were extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble.  Our room offered double aspect views from our balconies over both the Mediterranean and the harbour.

The entire dining experience was superb with relaxed dining throughout the day overlooking the pool to more formal dining on an evening.  Menu choices were sumptuous and complimented by an excellent wine list.

View from Hotel

During our stay, we spoke with several guests who had been visiting the hotel for many years – we could certainly understand why. After visiting Palma its wonderful to return to an oasis of calm at the Portixol.

So if you are looking for a hotel that prides itself on exceptional customer service then the Portixol with its contemporary styled bedrooms, sensational cocktails and sumptuous menu should be right at the top of your wish list.
