Undoubtedly the box office hit – Notting Hill starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts contributed to making this area one of the top 10 movie locations in London. At times, you really do feel that you are on a movie set! Things have changed slightly since then but it is still possible to book on ‘the Notting Hill film tour’.
We recently spent a weekend in Notting Hill, exploring the delights of Portobello Road and all off the charm that the area has to offer. The streets are lined with wonderful properties in an array of colours and the entire area has a real buzz.
We stayed in a delightful B & B, just around the corner from Portobello road – Dawson House, is a Victorian villa, where we received a lovely welcome and were shown to our room which was clean and spacious. The room was tastefully furnished – and the bed extremely comfortable. The following morning our breakfast was brought to our room, served on a lovely trolley, a rather personal touch!

Coupled with the fabulous array of stalls you also have the food and veg market where you can still find some foods being sold out of fashionable street barrows. The street food was incredible with tasters from across the globe.

Notting Hill boasts some wonderful places to eat from fine restaurants to specialist wine bars and artisan bakeries – there really is something for everybody.
We managed a peep into the famous Electric Cinema, with its luxurious leather armchairs and comfortable sofas – sadly however the evenings performance was already fully booked – next time!
We are already looking forward to our next visit.
How to get there:
We chose to drive down to London early on the Saturday morning – a journey which took around 3 and a half hours. Of course, you might prefer to take the train.
Notting Hill Gate is the main Tube station in the area and is served by the Central line, the District line and the Circle line.
